    Go to the YouTube video you want to download. In a web browser, go to https://www.youtube.com/ and locate the YouTube video you want to download. You can start playing the video to ensure it's the correct video.
    • Use the search bar at the top to search for the video if you are having trouble locating the video.

    Type vd in the address bar, just before youtube.com. Click the cursor right before the "youtube.com" portion of the video's URL in your browser's address bar and add vd.
    • For example, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ would become https://www.vdyoutube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ.

    Press Enter. This goes to the website you just changed in the address bar of your web browser.

    Click Download. This opens a drop-down menu with different quality options.

    Click a download quality. Your download will start automatically. If you want both audio and video in your video file, make sure you do not click one of the options that has an "x" next to the speaker icon.
    • mp4 hd720p is the highest video format available from this service that has both audio and video. You can download the video only (without audio) at a higher quality.
    • Depending on your browser's settings, you may need to select a folder you want to save your video file to, and then click Save before you download will begin.

Using Convert2MP3

    Go to the YouTube video you want to download. In a web browser, go to https://www.youtube.com/ and locate the YouTube video you want to download. You can start playing the video to ensure it's the correct video.
    • Use the search bar at the top to search for the video if you are having trouble locating the video.

    Copy the URL. Click and drag across the address of the video at the top of your browser address bar to highlight it, then press Ctrl+C on Windows or Command+C on a Mac. This copies the video URL.
    • Keep in mind that you cannot use this method to download copyrighted videos (e.g., music videos or videos which use copyrighted music).

    Open the Convert2MP3 site. Go to http://convert2mp3.net/en/ in your web browser. This website will allow you to download HD versions of YouTube videos when possible.

    Paste in the YouTube video's address. Click the "Insert video link (URL) and select format" text box near the middle of the page, then press either Ctrl+V (Windows) or Command+V (Mac). You should see the YouTube video's address appear in the text box.

    Click mp3. This box is on the right side of the page. A drop-down menu will appear.

    Select an MP4 quality. Click the "MP4 quality" drop-down box, then select your preferred quality (e.g., 720p) in the drop-down menu.
    • You cannot select a quality higher than the quality used in the video, and 1080p is the highest quality you can use.
    • Some videos will download in 720p quality even if you select 1080p.

    Click convert. It's an orange button on the right side of the page. Convert2MP3 will begin converting the YouTube address into an MP4 file.
    • If you selected a quality that's higher than the video's quality or you tried to download a copyrighted video, you will receive an error message before the video can finish processing.

    Click Download. This green button is in the middle of the page. Doing so will prompt the YouTube video to download onto your computer.

Using VLC Player

    Go to the video you want to download. In a web browser, go to https://www.youtube.com/ and locate the YouTube video you want to download. You can start playing the video to ensure it's the correct video.
    • Use the search bar at the top to search for the video if you are having trouble locating the video.

    Copy the video's URL. Click and drag across the address of the video at the top of your browser address bar to highlight it, then press Ctrl+C on Windows or Command+C on a Mac. This copies the video URL.

    Open VLC. It's the app with the icon of an orange traffic cone.
    • If you don't have it already, you can download VLC for free at https://www.videolan.org. VLC is an open-source video player with a lot of beneficial features for playing all kinds of files.[1]

    Open a new Network stream. Network streams allow you to play content from your web browser in VLC:
    • Windows — Click Media, then click Open Network Stream....
    • Mac — Click File, then click Open Network.

    Paste the YouTube video's URL into the field. Click the "Please enter a network URL" text box, then press Ctrl+V (Windows) or Command+V (Mac). You should see the YouTube video's address appear in the text box.
    • Make sure the entire URL got copied.

    Play the video. At the bottom of the window, click either Play (Windows) or Open (Mac). This will open the YouTube video in VLC.

    View the video's codec information. To do so:
    • Windows — Click Tools, then click Codec Information.
    • Mac — Click Window, then click Media Information.

    Copy the "Location" field. At the bottom of the window, you'll see a long address that you'll need to copy:
    • Windows — Right-click the "Location" text field, click Select All, and then right-click it again and click Copy.
    • Mac — Right-click (or Control-click) the "Location" text field and click Open URL.

    Open the video in your browser. Open a new browser tab and paste the copied URL, then press Enter. This will load the video directly in your browser.
    • You can skip this step if you're on a Mac and you selected Open URL in the previous step.

    Download the video. Right-click the video in your browser, then click Save video as in the resulting drop-down menu. The video will begin downloading onto your computer as an MP4 file with the name "videoplayback".
    • Depending on your browser's settings, you may first need to select a save location and enter a name for your file before it will download.
